Dental Exams & Cleanings

What are Dental Exams & Cleanings?

A dental exam is helpful in finding minor or even major problems that may go undetected over time. Cleanings are performed by dental hygienists who will clear away tartar and buildup from the teeth that cannot be removed with a toothbrush alone. Both cleanings and exams are important parts of your preventative care routine. We recommend that each member of your family come into the office regularly for this type of appointment.

Why should Dental Exams & Cleanings be done?

It’s not uncommon to forgo dental care and treatment because of a hectic schedule or a fear of visiting the office. Unfortunately, the longer you go between appointments, the more problems tend to show up. This can be detrimental to your oral health and can cause the need for more invasive treatments. By taking a proactive approach to your dental care, you can prevent problems from happening and take care of small issues before they get worse.

How often should Dental Exams & Cleanings be done?

We recommend that you come into the office every six months for a cleaning and exam. This helps us to keep up with oral hygiene as well as monitor for any noticeable changes. It is never too early to get kids in for their first visit, and it’s never too late to come in after years of dental neglect. We are here to offer you the care that you need in a comfortable and non-judgmental manner.

What can you expect during Dental Exams & Cleanings?

The first part of the appointment will involve the cleaning. X-rays are normally taken before the cleaning starts. Our hygienist will then clear away tartar and plaque from the teeth using specialized tools. The teeth are then polished carefully and flossed to remove any remaining debris. The hygienist can then check your gums for signs of gum disease or gingivitis. Dr. Ally will then come into the office, greet you and then perform the exam. The exam will help us to find any cavities, problem areas or even oral cancer. We will create a treatment plan as needed and you’ll be ready to leave the office.

If you think you need an exam or a cleaning, call us today so that we can get you in for an appointment at your earliest convenience.
