Fluoride Treatments

What are Fluoride Treatments?

You are probably using dental products right now that contain fluoride. You may even be tied into a public water source that has fluoridated water. Fluoride is essential for keeping teeth healthy and strong. It can prevent tooth decay from forming, which would result in the need for more invasive procedures. We offer fluoride treatments that can be used in conjunction with your preventative care products.

Why would Fluoride Treatments be needed?

You might want to make use of fluoride treatments if you aren’t already getting enough of it in your dental care routine or if you don’t drink fluoridated water. Some patients are simply looking for that extra layer of protection to keep their teeth strong and healthy. Children are great candidates for fluoride treatment because their teeth are more susceptible to decay.

Who is a candidate for Fluoride Treatments?

Dr. Ally can help to determine if you may benefit from fluoride treatments with a simple examination. If you’re prone to decay, already have a lot of fillings or cavities or if you are looking to further protect your teeth, fluoride is the best choice for you. Patients with severe sensitivity problems can benefit from these treatments as well, since fluoride helps to re-mineralize compromised teeth.

What happens during Fluoride Treatments?

Fluoride treatments take just seconds and can be done along with other procedures while you’re in the office. In fact, we often recommend fluoride at each of your child’s bi-annual checkup appointments. The fluoride is carefully brushed over every tooth after treatment is finished. You will be instructed to avoid eating and drinking so that the fluoride itself is able to fully penetrate into the tooth. You can have these treatments done at any appointment and as often as is needed. Fluoride is safe and incredibly beneficial to your overall oral health when it is applied professionally in our office.
