Porcelain Veneers

What are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are a type of cosmetic restoration that can completely transform your smile. They are incredibly thin and are able to fit perfectly over your existing teeth, but they are highly durable as well. Most porcelain veneers can last for upwards of 10 years before they will need to be replaced. They can cover imperfections such as cracks, chips, discoloration, staining and uneven gaps and spaces between your teeth.

Why are Porcelain Veneers needed?

If you are feeling badly about the way that your smile looks, there is no easier or quicker way to transform it than with the use of porcelain veneers. You may want to have porcelain veneers put onto your teeth because your front teeth are chipped or cracked. You may even want to fill in areas that have uneven spaces or gaps with veneers. You may choose to have porcelain veneers put onto your front teeth before a big event, like a wedding or a class reunions. It is not uncommon for people to want veneers simply because they are ready for a dramatic transformation.

Who is a candidate for Porcelain Veneers?

The majority of people who want to have veneers placed onto their teeth are eligible for the procedure. We will perform an examination to determine if your front teeth are healthy enough to have veneers placed. If your front teeth are decayed or show any signs of problems, we may recommend other treatments before veneers are put on. Many patients choose porcelain veneers because of the durability and strength that these particular restorations are able to offer.

What happens during the Porcelain Veneer procedure?

The veneer procedure will typically begin by slightly filing down the front teeth. This allows the veneers to sit appropriately so that they do not look bulky or out of place. Impressions are then taken so that brand new porcelain veneers can be made just for you. You will come in for a second visit so that the new permanent veneers can be placed. This process takes some time, since we want to make sure that the veneers look completely natural on your teeth. You can then leave the office feeling confident when it comes to the look and feel of your brand new smile.
